Today our friends at Forbes magazine reported Google is providing FREE wireless to Manhattan and the upscale Chelsea neighborhood. It’s a first for New York and the first free urban Wi-Fi network. One might think this is a noble gesture, but then again Google does have over 3,000 employees in these neighborhoods. Yet another reason to stay connected in the Big Apple.

New York City has given the green light on plans to build the world’s largest ferris wheel on Staten Island. At 625-feet, the wheel will displace The Singapore Flyer which - at 541 feet - is the current record holder.
Since the success of the London Eye, cities across the globe have been taking their own crack at carny success. While some have fared well the list of failures give pause. Dubai, Berlin, Orlando, and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia have all seen ferris wheel projects put on hold or canceled.
The ferris wheel is part of a three-pronged project that includes a hotel and shopping center. Rumors swirl the development is an attempt to promote New York’s least inhabited and often most overlooked burrow. The ferris wheel is scheduled to open in 2015.
September 11th, 2012 marks the 11th anniversary of the 2,982 victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Today the museum will open to the public, accessible through a large pavilion of glass and steel—with a glass atrium featuring two of original steel tridents from the World Trade Center towers—at street level, which will contain a “multi-purpose area for contemplation and refreshment,” an auditorium for museum-curated programming available to the public, and a private suite solely for the use of the family members of the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts announced yesterday it will disperse its entire collection of works from the famed Pop artist through sales and donations.
The profits will be used to bolster the foundation’s grant-making activities, with Christie’s entering a long-term deal to market the works.
"Christie’s will conduct phased sales over a period of years using multiple platforms, including single artist live auctions, private sales and continuing online auctions, bringing a wide range of Warhol’s art - much of which has never before been seen by the public at large - to existing as well as new collectors worldwide," a statement from the two partners said.
The foundation said that some works would be donated to museums. The goal, it said, is to “significantly increase its endowment in order to ensure and expand its long-term support of the visual arts.”

Since the era of couturier Coco Chanel, fashion fiends have entrusted their style sense to magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair, and W; indulging in the inspiring images that define fashion and capture the essence of being ‘en vogue.’ Thanks to the innovation of the printing press, people started contracting consumerism like some sort of epidemic. Alas, nowadays print is dead and the world has turned to digitalism while being thrust into a reinvented era—an era that can outrun the printing press in a heartbeat; running on Wi-Fi rather than basic mechanics.
After years of flipping through the pages of sports and fashion magazines, technology has made everyone’s job much easier, as we can now scroll through the images with one finger on our smartphones. Yes, I am talking about Instagram and it’s addictive nature: a cellular app defined by the company as “a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your photos with friends and family.” However, the photo sharing does not stop there. In fact, photos shared on Instagram have the ability to go viral in the same way images in Vogue once did; and the reach is growing exponentially. The difference between Instagram and Vogue, you see, is instant gratification. Unlike the reign of the magazine, in this day and age people crave speed. It has become a form of common sense as social media has morphed within a generation. The fashion industry knows this, and as a result thousands of brands and bloggers alike have manipulated the app’s intended purpose of sharing images with friends and family, opting to share their images—their names—with the world. From behind the scenes images from the latest Vogue photo-shoot, to instant front row images from Paris Fashion Week, Instagram continues to influence and change our lives.
