It has been exactly one year since the passing of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs from pancreatic cancer. The late Apple trailblazer certainly possessed “magical thinking” in his ascension to business brilliance; now if only cancer researchers can implement the same strategy to help find a cure for this deadly disease that impacts millions across the globe.
Apple has donated tens of millions of dollars toward cancer research and will continue to assist in the race for a cure. LBi, a global marketing and technology agency out of New York, and Social Irony, a Jakarta-based digital media firm, both support the Steve Jobs memorial iPhone app to help raise funds for pancreatic cancer. “The app - entitled ‘In Steve’s Honor’ – allows users to download a specially designed commemorative ribbon to their iPhone as reusable wallpaper so they can simultaneously pay tribute to Steve Jobs and raise money for research into the disease.” Steve Jobs legacy lives on as a fight for a cure continues.
Forget the rumors surrounding Apple’s iPhone 5, a Chinese company by the name of GooPhone has created an iPhone 5 clone they are calling the Goophone I5. According to a report by CNET, GooPhone may have taken out a patent on the design of a new smartphone they created. The Company is even going as far as to try and sue Apple over a patent issue involving the company’s upcoming smartphone. Is this what the future holds? The bee logo is kinda cool, but we hold true to our guns. Apple.
The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts announced yesterday it will disperse its entire collection of works from the famed Pop artist through sales and donations.
The profits will be used to bolster the foundation’s grant-making activities, with Christie’s entering a long-term deal to market the works.
“Christie’s will conduct phased sales over a period of years using multiple platforms, including single artist live auctions, private sales and continuing online auctions, bringing a wide range of Warhol’s art - much of which has never before been seen by the public at large - to existing as well as new collectors worldwide,” a statement from the two partners said.
The foundation said that some works would be donated to museums. The goal, it said, is to “significantly increase its endowment in order to ensure and expand its long-term support of the visual arts.”
So what’s next for the most decorated Olympian of all-time? Will he set his sights on a career as a singer, perhaps bring his swag to the fashion runway, what about acting? Well, none of the above. Michael Phelps will take his gold-medal stroke to a different track following his Olympic career: with goals play the world’s greatest golf courses and improve his swing under the watchful eye of Hank Haney. Will he take golf serious enough to earn his tour card? After all he is a world-class athlete, and who doesn’t love spending more time on the greens. The Team USA superstar has four more years to tune-up his game so he can compete in the 2016 Olympic games (in golf) … and take home even more gold. Mr. Phelps, may your balls stay on the straight and narrow.

The Twitter troll that was harassing British diver Tom Daley was arrested as Olympic social media woes continue. Sportsmanship, especially relating to social media appears to be a thing of the past, particularly in relation to the London 2012 Games.
Earlier today British diver Tom Daley called out a twitter hater @Riley_69 with the hashtag #GetRiley_69banned and the IOC flexed their muscles as authorities arrested the inappropriate sports fan. It’s a relief to know there is still some level of accountability for the fans in the actual arena and also in the Twitter arena.
Photo of the day: ‘Supertrees’ illuminate Singapore sky
A technicolor grove of “Supertrees” is illuminated on July 2 during a light and sound show at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. The 150-foot-tall Supertrees are constructed from concrete and steel and feature a vertical garden consisting of 163,000 plants from more than 200 species of flowers. The massive artificial trees are part of the ambitious park project, which opened free to the public on June 29.
