Floyd Mayweather to buy Los Angeles Cippers
World boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has expressed interest in purchasing the Los Angeles Clippers franchise hours after NBA Commissioner Adam Silver imposed a lifetime ban on Donald Sterling along with wanting to strip ownership of the Clippers pending a vote of fellow NBA owners.

Mayweather Jr., who is a regular at Clippers and Lakers games, spoke with reporters at the MGM’s VIP lounge in Las Vegas as he prepares for his welterweight unification bout with Marcos Maidana Saturday night which will be aired on Showtime PPV.

There has been wide speculation of who will step in and make a serious offer to purchase the Clippers and now we can add Mayweather to the mix of interested buyers.

Mayweather says he is serious about his intentions of making a bid for the Clippers and talked it over with his advisor, Al Haymon. The initial plan is to team up with Mayweather Promotions chief executive Leonard Ellerbe, chief executive Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions and possibly others to make a pitch for purchase.

“I called Al today about that to see if me, Leonard and Al, and hopefully Richard and a couple other guys, a couple of my other billionaire guys, we can come together and see what we can come up with,” Mayweather said. “Hopefully, we can do it, and it’s just not talk.

“With me, I can’t come in talking about Mayweather only gonna get 3 percent, 4 percent. I got to get a solid percentage. Do we want to buy the Clippers? Yes, we do. We are very, very interested in buying the Clippers. We’ll keep the Clippers right where they’re at. When I’m not boxing, I’m at the games all the time. We do want to buy the Clippers. Me and my team do want to buy the Clippers and we can afford the Clippers.”

Mayweather lives in Las Vegas and as an avid gambler, added, “Once I get ownership in the Clippers I can no longer bet, so I have to stop that completely.”

In his first two fights in 2013, Mayweather Jr. raked in $73.5 million in minimum purses to make him the world’s highest-paid athlete and when asked about his take on the whole Donald Sterling fiasco, Mayweather had this to say…

“Donald Sterling, he’s been getting a lot of negative press and my thing is this—I don’t have nothing negative to say about this guy,” he said. “He’s always treated me with the utmost respect. He has always invited me to the games, always. Has always told me, ‘Floyd, I want you to sit right next to me and my wife.’ I don’t know about the [alleged] mistress. But I’m talking about him and his wife.”

How serious should we take Mayweather’s interest in buying the Clippers? Schaeffer, who’s been promoting Mayweather’s fights since 2007 had this to say…

“When he tells you guys he’s interested in buying the Clippers, he’s just not saying that for an interview,” Schaeffer said. “He’s really serious about it and I’m sure he could rally the necessary people around him to support him in a bid like that.”

Mayweather, however is not the only boxer interested in the Clippers as the Golden Boy himself, Oscar De La Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions also said on Tuesday he has an interest in making a bid to own a piece of L.A.’s “other team.”

Other candidates, who many are speculating could offer a bid to buy the Clippers include former music and movie mogul, billionaire David Geffen, the Los Angeles Times has reported.

“If the Clippers become available he would be interested in buying the franchise,” Geffen’s office said in an email to the Los Angeles Times.

Other possible bidders who have shown interest include real-estate tycoon Rick Caruso and Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, who in recent years has tried to acquire a sports franchise, but to no avail despite having the financial means to do so.

The often described richest man in Los Angeles, biotech billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong who actually bought out Magic Johnson’s share of the Lakers in 2010 could be interested in owning his own sports team.

And speaking of Magic Johnson, he has already publicly said, along with Mark Walter and their Guggenheim Partner Group, who all already own the Los Angeles Dodgers would be possible suitors as well for the Clippers.

So, it’s safe to say from here on out now that the pressure will be on Sterling to sell the Clippers, we may get a daily dose of well-to-be suitors for the Clippers franchise… so stay tuned.

The rings are massive with plenty of, yes, bling. The Miami Heat were presented their Championship rings prior to tipping off the season against the Boston Celtics. The Rings are 14-karat yellow gold and have 219 diamonds, totaling 10.8 carats each. It weighs over 114-grams, so heavy in fact, if you wear it, you would indeed walk with a limp. The Championship jewelry is designed by Minnesota-based design leader Jostens, with 115 year tradition of making championship jewelry and hardware.

The new $315 LeBron X would be Nike’s most expensive shoe ever, and will include motion sensors to measure your vertical jump, according to The Wall Street Journal. Unveiled by NBA superstar LeBron James during the 2012 Olympic gold medal basketball game between the United States and Spain, it will be available this fall. Nike products have seen an increase in price by up to 10-percent.

Perhaps a pair of Armani shoes is a better investment.
