So wait, what are we celebrating?
The final Monday of May is the unofficial kick off to BBQ season and the first of two long weekend holidays that bookend Summer vacation. But what is this Memorial Day that you speak of…really?
According to Wikipedia Memorial Day came to being as Decoration Day. It was a day to remember fallen Union soldiers of the American Civil War. By the 20th century the scope of the holiday had expanded to honor all Americans who died at war.
On this particular Memorial day, as it has been for the last ten, it is hard to not think about the lives lost in Afghanistan and Iraq. All politics be damned, Monday I’m spilling a sip of my beer for all those who lost their lives, a family member or loved one in those conflicts. To you all who are still there, stay safe my peoples.

Just when you thought it was safe to tweet about BBQ pork ribs, a recent trip to Bali or how bitchy flight attendants need to enroll in an ettiqutte class, think again! The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is digging its heels in for more “signs of terrorist or other threats against the U.S.” This time they are monitoring keywords on social media. Big Brother is watching even closer! Happy Memorial Day!
